NDP 2006

Singapore's National Day Parade (NDP) is an annual extravaganza involving more than 5,000 participants, 65,000 spectators and requiring six months of organization. The spectacle lasts four hours and culminates in a brilliant fireworks show lighting up the night sky.

For the 2006 NDP, the organizers faced the challenge of increasing security measures without over-investing in a system for an aging and soon-to-be-demolished National Stadium.

High Performance Mesh Network

Following discussions with the organizers, iCELL Network designed and implemented a Firetide mesh network as a backhaul wireless LAN for the security cameras and wireless access points, with two AscenLink WAN load balancers ensuring a reliable network with optimal performance for the 40 IP security cameras and 50 access points supporting numerous mobile browsers and VoIP phones. The entire network was connected to the Internet via a 40Mbps SingTel pipe.

Rapid Deployment, High Reliability

Without the need for costly Ethernet cabling, outdoor trenching, civil engineering and additional IT staff management, the entire setup proved to be a simple, cost-effective solution that was installed in a matter of weeks. Despite its simplicity, the network provided a very high level of reliability and performance at all times.
